RS Fibre™
Medicinal Ingredients (per scoop/10 g):
Banana (Musa x paradisiaca - Immature fruit) .............4 g
Potato (Solanum tuberosum - Tuber) ..............3 g
Microcrystalline cellulose (Cellulose) (Bambusa emeiensis - Stem)..............2 g
Arabinogalactan (D-Galacto-Larabinan) (Larix laricina - Wood) ..............1 gRS Fiber incorporates two varieties of type II resistant starch—green banana flour and potato starch powder. Resistant starches (RS) defy enzymatic digestion in the upper gastrointestinal tract, unlike common starches that undergo breakdown into glucose molecules by various enzymes. Resistant starches, once reaching the lower gastrointestinal tract, are metabolized into short-chain fatty acids by bacteria, evading contributions to blood sugar levels. In contrast, typical starches are swiftly converted to glucose, leading to rapid and sometimes dramatic spikes in blood glucose levels. The RS Fiber blend, with its 4 grams of resistant starches combined with 3 grams of regular starches, effectively restrains significant increases in blood glucose.
In the United States, the average daily intake of total fiber and resistant starches is approximately 15 g and 5 g, respectively, falling below the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of 25-30 g/day and notably lower than the 50-100 g consumed daily during much of human evolution. Recognizing this deficiency, particularly in fiber, is crucial as it is a vital component for sustaining overall health. The evolutionary diet of humans, rich in crude starches from root vegetables and fruits, suggests that the human gastrointestinal tract and glucoregulatory mechanisms are more adept at metabolizing starches resistant to digestion, shedding light on the potential advantages of prioritizing such forms over refined and concentrated sugars and starches in contemporary dietary choices.
