Phos Choline plays a pivotal role in transmitting phospholipids crucial for supporting optimal liver function. Among these phospholipids, phosphatidylcholine, also known as phosphatide, takes precedence and is predominantly found in lecithin. As a vital constituent of cell membranes, particularly within hepatocytes, it holds significance for liver health. Phosphatidylcholine is integral to the composition of lipoproteins, primarily produced by the liver. Maintaining normal levels of phosphatidylcholine is essential in preventing the accumulation of lipids in the liver. This is due to its role in the production and secretion of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), responsible for transporting triglycerides from the liver. Insufficient levels of phosphatidylcholine can lead to the buildup of VLDL and triglycerides, adversely affecting liver function. Recent in vitro assays have demonstrated that choline deficiency in hepatocytes can result in the overproduction of free radicals, contributing to DNA damage and impairing liver function. In a randomized, double-blind trial involving 57 healthy adults on a choline-deficient diet for six weeks, hepatic steatosis, liver damage, and muscle damage were observed in 68% of participants. However, upon reintroducing choline to the diet, organ dysfunction was corrected for all participants within six weeks.
